Most treatment is completed with local anesthesia to adequately numb the treatment area. For patients who are especially anxious, have excessive gagging tendencies, or issues with claustrophobia, we offer various forms of sedation from nitrous (laughing gas) to conscious sedation.
Nitrous oxide works great as a mild sedative and is quickly out of your system after treatment, meaning there’s no need for the assistance of a driver after the procedure.
Conscious sedation, either via oral sedation or IV sedation, offers greater depth of patient comfort. For this type of sedation, patients are completely calm, relaxed and anxiety free. With conscious sedation, you are always able to respond to verbal commands and yet most patients will report no memory of the appointment afterwards. Patients that wish to undergo conscious sedation will require the assistance of a driver before and after the procedure.
If you feel you may be interested in conscious sedation for treatment, please request a sedation consultation appointment so that all areas of your care can be appropriately evaluated.
