CONE BEAM 3D IMAGING

See More. Diagnose with Confidence.

Advanced 3D imaging gives our specialists a detailed view of your tooth, roots, bone, and surrounding anatomy for more precise diagnosis and treatment planning.

More detail for more confident decisions

A CLEARER VIEW

See What Traditional X-Rays Can’t

Traditional dental X-rays provide a two-dimensional view. Cone Beam CT creates detailed 3D images that allow our endodontists to examine your tooth and surrounding structures from multiple angles.

With the Carestream Digital Imaging, we can visualize fine anatomical details that may be critical to understanding the source of pain and planning the right treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ask a Question

What is a CBCT scan?

CBCT stands for cone-beam computed tomography.

It is a dental imaging technology that creates three-dimensional images of teeth, roots, bone, and nearby structures. It can provide information that may be difficult to obtain from a traditional two-dimensional dental X-ray.

CBCT can provide additional information when a three-dimensional view would help answer a diagnostic or treatment-planning question.

It can be particularly useful when evaluating complex root anatomy, previously treated teeth, areas of infection, resorption, treatment complications, and the relationship between a tooth and surrounding structures.

A traditional X-ray compresses three-dimensional anatomy into a two-dimensional image, which can cause structures to overlap.

CBCT allows the endodontist to examine an area from multiple directions and may provide additional information about:

  • Root and canal anatomy
  • Areas of bone change
  • Previously treated or untreated canals
  • Root resorption
  • Treatment complications
  • Nearby anatomical structures
  • Certain patterns that may help evaluate suspected fractures

Imaging decisions should be based on the individual patient and the clinical question that needs to be answered.

When CBCT is expected to provide useful information for diagnosis or treatment planning, Cumberland Endodontics can incorporate three-dimensional imaging into the evaluation.

Technology supports the diagnosis; it does not replace the clinical examination.

Your dentist’s images are valuable and should be reviewed when available.

Additional imaging may be recommended if the existing images do not provide all the information needed to answer a specific diagnostic or treatment-planning question.

If your dentist has already taken relevant images, those can be sent to Cumberland Endodontics for review.
